Audi expecting strong race at Lausitz
Audi is expecting a strong Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters race at EuroSpeedway Lausitz. Previous race winner Mattias Ekström has finished on the podium on that track no less than seven times.
“It’s always nice to race at the EuroSpeedway because I’ve got plenty of fond memories of this track,” said Ekström.
Although the Swede is expecting strong opposition from rival Mercedes drivers.
“We’ve got to do a perfect job of preparing ourselves because, historically, Mercedes has always been strong there,” said Ekström.
Audi had a strong race in Spain two weeks ago when Ekström won the race and Alexandre Prémat finished third. And Ekström says EuroSpeedway could be pretty much the same.
“Basically, we can expect similar conditions as at Valencia: the tarmac doesn’t have a lot of grip and the track is generally slippery. As far as that goes, we can benefit from our experiences in Spain,” said Ekström.
Reigning champion and Audi driver Timo Scheider is going to drive with number one on his car again after having number 100 on his car in Spain, celebrating his 100th race. The German hopes that race 101 is going to be a good one.
“I like the EuroSpeedway. Audi had a relatively difficult time there in recent years. But we’re arriving with a good feeling from Valencia and are hoping to continue our exploit. And who says that times couldn’t change and that we’ll be the quicker ones now?” said Scheider.
