BMW to cut WTCC or Sportscar for DTM

BMW has confirmed that if they enter DTM in 2012, either their WTCC or Sportscar programme will be cut.
“Three programmes would be too much. Priorities would have to be set,” said BMW Motorsport boss Mario Theissen to Autosport.

So far the only confirmed plans for BMW in 2011 is to continue with the M3 in GTs and that a new S2000 engine will be developed.

Although Theissen explained to Autosport that the fact that they are developing the new S2000 engine does not mean that they are likely to continue in WTCC as a factory team.

Instead, the development of the new 1.6 litre turbo engine is meant for customers to be able to continue racing with the BMW 320si E90 when the new engine rules come in to play.
