Spengler heads Mercedes 1-2-3 at Nürburgring
Mercedes secured a 1-2-3 at Nürburgring today as Bruno Spengler won the race ahead of manufacturer colleagues Paul Di Resta and Gary Paffett. Pole position-man Mattias Ekström made a poor start and dropped down to seventh, a position he held throughout the race.
Spengler and Di Resta were close at some points in the race, but Di Resta never got close enough to try to pass.
As Ekström made a mess of his start, Timo Scheider had to take over the role as leading Audi driver. The reigning champion made a strong start and was fourth in the first lap after starting eight.
Alexandre Prémat was the first retirement of the race as he clashed with Oliver Jarvis. The contact between the both resulted in Prémat skidding over the grass and hitting the tyre barriers.
Scheider got involved in a battle for third with Paffett and Jamie Green. The Audi driver tried to get past Green in the first corner, only to get passed by Green instead. But Scheider later got past Green in the pit stops and secured fourth.
Green had to settle for fifth and was caught up by Ralf Schumacher at the end. But the former F1-driver never got close enough and had to settle for sixth ahead of Ekström in seventh.
Maro Engel, Mike Rockenfeller and David Coulthard rounded off top ten.
