Paffett: “It’s is fantastic to be back on the top step”

Gary Paffett has put himself right back in to contention for the championship of the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters 2010 after his win at Zandvoort today.
“Victory today puts me in second place in the championship, just nine points behind Spengler, so I’m in a great position to challenge for the championship for the remainder of the season,” said Paffett.

Paffett started second in the race at Zandvoort but was first in to the first corner as pole position-man Timo Scheider stalled. The Brit then pulled up a lead he was never to lose.

“It is fantastic to be back on the top step of the podium again. The car was handling really well during qualifying so I knew we had a good chance of a race win today,” said Paffett.

Paffett is second in the championship, nine points behind championship leader Bruno Spengler. DTM continues in two weeks at Brands Hatch, the home race for the Brit.

“We head to Brands Hatch next which I’m really looking forward to as it’s my home race. I’m going to head there on the back of a great race weekend and will be aiming for a repeat of today’s result,” said Paffett.
