Paffett secures Mercedes 1-2 at Zandvoort
Gary Paffett claimed his second victory of the season and moved to second in the championship. The Brit headed a commanding Mercedes 1-2 with Paul Di Resta second.
“I was not expecting to be first in to turn one. The car was really good and was able to pull up a gap. The race was fairly easy,” said Paffett.
Timo Scheider had pole position but stalled on the grid and dropped to tenth. Scheider then started a chase through the field and was able to climb back to third, passing Mattias Ekström in the final pitstop.
Ekström finished fourth and was matched in pace throughout the race by Miguel Molina. The two were switching places a couple of times, but in the end Ekström got past and the Spaniard had to settle for fifth.
Oliver Jarvis came home sixth ahead of championship leader Bruno Spengler. The Canadian had a disappointing race, lacking the pace for the top, and only secured two points for the championship.
Martin Tomczyk finished eight and claimed the last point.
