Nissan evaluates DTM entry
Nissan is evaluating the possibilities to enter the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters when the new regulations come in to play.
“The DTM is interesting for many reasons, one of which is its success in terms of spectator attendances,” said Carlos Tavares, Nissan vice-president, to Autosport.
The Japanese manufacturer has started a dialogue surrounding an eventual entry in the German series with the DTM organisers ITR.
“We have had discussions with the ITR, but we have not made any decisions so far,” said Tavares.
One of the main things for Nissan, just as for BMW, regarding the coming new DTM regulations is the possibilities to run the car in several different championships.
“Any scenario that brings regulations around the world together is appreciated, because it would allow us to do more racing for the same money,” said Tavares.
The DTM has been in discussions with the Japanese Super GT championship for a while, something Nissan welcomes.
“Something should be done so we don’t have to build a very specific car for a very specific set of regulations. If there are the same regulations in Japan as the rest of the world, that would be perfect,” said Tavares.
