Audi keen to get back into title fight

Audi has with just four races left of the season almost lost contact with the title fight. Timo Scheider, who is Audi’s best hope currently, is keen to get right back in to the title fight.
“It’s high time to get back on a winning track. My form curve has been pointing upward lately and I’ve always felt comfortable at Oschersleben,” said Scheider.

Scheider is fourth in the championship, 23 points behind championship leader Bruno Spengler, and needs to gain six points per race.

The statistics favors Scheider ahead of the race this weekend as the reigning champion has won the two past races at the German track. If Scheider wins and Spengler scores zero points, the title race would be back on track.

“And if that happened, then the decision would suddenly be completely open again,” said Scheider.

Mattias Ekström is the second best Audi-driver in the championship, one point behind Scheider. Audi Motorsport-boss Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich feels that the Swede should have had more points.

“We all know that his score could be a lot better. Twice this season he’s been deprived of finishing in the points due to accidents in which he was not at fault. Most recently, at Brands Hatch, he was knocked out of the race by a rival right in turn one. That’s particularly painful,” said Ullrich.

While Ekström never before has won at Oschersleben but is none the less keen to keep hope to Audi’s title hope this weekend.

“I want to forget the weekend at Brands Hatch as quickly as possible. At Oschersleben, I finished as the runner-up last year. It’s the only permanent race track in the DTM on which I’ve never won before. And it’s the track on which we can postpone the title decision this year once more. That’s got to be our aim,” said Ekström.
