BMW have started designing new DTM car

BMW have confirmed that they have started to design their car for the new Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters regulations in 2012.
“In order to be ready for 2012 we have started designing a car based on the new regulations already. Just on paper, but it shows you that we are confident,” said BMW Motorsport boss Mario Theissen to Autosport.

While the design work has started, BMW has yet not confirmed that they are going to take part in DTM 2012. The reason for this is that BMW want certain conditions to be met regarding some areas of the regulations.

“We have been invited to participate in the technical regulations since early this year, and we have made our contribution. To me, it all looks positive. There is a broad consensus about how it should be,” said Theissen.

Mercedes recently criticized BMW for taking too long to make their decision.

“We haven’t taken the final decision yet, but I’m confident that it will come in the next weeks or months. I hope that it will come soon,” said Theissen.
