Scheider sets pole in the rain at Hockenheim

Timo Scheider has secured pole position for Audi, ahead of Mike Rockenfeller in a rain hit qualifying session. Mercedes driver Gary Paffett will start third.

After a wet practice session, the rain stayed throughout the one hour qualifying session at Hockenheim, Round 9 of this years championship.

Mattias Ekström was the first big name to fall out, not getting through Q1. The Swedish driver, who needs to finish in at least the top two in every race without Spengler scoring to be in with a chance of the title, will line-up 15th on the grid.

Championship leader Bruno Spengler will also have his work cut out on race day, qualifying in 11th in his Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse.

Paul Di Resta, Spengler’s closest threat in the championship just missed the cut to get into Q4, and will start fifth for the 47 lap race tomorrow.

Timo Scheider managed to brave the conditions and string together the best lap and the best time as the conditions continued to improve, and put the Audi A4 on pole position, ahead of Mike Rockenfeller in the one-year older specification A4.

Gary Paffett was the only Mercedes driver in Q4, and qualified third, as Alexandre Prémat made a mistake on his run and will start fourth – meaning both the Phoenix Racing Audi’s will start in the top four however.
