Timo Scheider had “the best race of his life”
Timo Scheider ranked the victory at Adria yesterday as the best race of his life. The German started 15th and was able to win the race thanks to a special pitstop strategy.
“An incredible race! Of course I’d been aiming to score points. I did manage to go into the race in fifteenth place and was seventh after the first lap,” said Scheider.
Thanks to the shortened race due to the crash of Alexandre Prémat, Scheider was able to do his first pitstop with just seven laps left of the race and then his final stop just two laps later.
“When 17 or 18 laps before the end I saw the laps being counted backwards on the pit board I was wondering if they’d forgotten my pit stops! Then, finally, the call came. With a perfect strategy we had two stops in a row with just a short time in between,” said Scheider.
The victory was the first for Scheider since the race at Barcelona in september 2009.
“It’s an incredible feeling to win with a nine-second lead after having started from position 15. I want to thank the crew and the strategists. They gave me the car that enabled me to be so quick,” said Scheider.
