Darryl O’Young replaces Prémat for Shanghai
Darryl O’Young is going to make his Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters debut in the final race of the year at Shanghai, replacing Alexandre Prémat.
“We welcome Darryl O’Young to Audi and are pleased to have been able to secure his services for our showing in China at short notice,” says Audi Motorsport boss Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich.
O’Young takes over the place from Frenchman Prémat, who had a huge accident during the previous DTM race at Adria. Audi has chosen not to extend the contract for Prémat.
“The decision to give Alexandre Prémat leave of absence before his contract expires wasn’t an easy one for us. Unfortunately, though, opinions on important topics most recently differed too much. We would like to thank him for his work during the past four years and wish him all the best for his future career,” said Ullrich.
The 30-year-old O’Young has previously driven for Audi, in sportscars.
“Darryl has been driving high-performance GT sports cars for many years and by finishing as the overall runner-up clinched a remarkable result in the Audi R8 LMS at the Sepang 12 Hours in August together with Frank Biela and Marco Werner,” said Ullrich.
O’Young has most recently been driving in the FIA World Touring Car Championship, where he will take part in the final race of the year at Macau this weekend, with a chance to win the Yokohama Independents’ Trophy title.
