Gary Paffett: “I did all I could”
Gary Paffett had an outside shot at the DTM 2010 title with being nine points behind ahead of the finale in China.
“I came to Shanghai as the title outsider; nine points behind Bruno and six behind Paul, but with the aim of doing all I could to clinch the title. Winning the race today I did all I could and the rest was down to where Bruno and Paul finished,” said Paffett.
The Brit won the race but was not able to get ahead of Pau Di Resta in the standings, for that he would have needed Di Resta outside the points.
“Paul drove a great race to finish second and I want to offer him my congratulations for winning the championship,” said Paffett.
While Paffett was unable to clinch the title, he passed previous championship leader Bruno Spengler to second in the championship as well as confirming an outstanding consistency by being the sole driver of the field to score in all races.
“I also want to say a huge thank you to my team for all their hard work this year and for giving me a fantastic car. Being the only driver to score points at every single race this season is testimony to the team’s work over the past 12 months,” said Paffett.
2010 was Paffett’s seventh season in the DTM and not long after the dust had settled from the final race, the Brit stated that he is ready for his eight season and a new shot at the title.
“It’s been a fantastic season and I’m already looking forward to coming back in 2011 and going one better and winning the championship,” said Paffett.
