TouringCarTimes 2010 Awards: DTM
The TouringCarTimes annual awards for the DTM saw F1 graduate Paul Di Resta crowned the best driver of the season, with a strong haul of results for Mercedes-Benz in a dominant season for the marque from Stuttgart.
In the best driver category, TouringCarTimes readers voted heavily for Paul Di Resta, with the Scotsman sweeping 51% of the vote. Closest to him was second placed driver in the championship, Gary Paffett with 11%.
Despite a troubled season, Mattias Ekström finished third (despite finishing fifth in the standings), with Canadian driver Bruno Spengler in fourth.
An interesting tie for fifth place between the non-latest spec running drivers Jamie Green and Susie Stoddard, with various other drivers picking up small percentages behind them.

When it comes to the team’s championship, it was even more clear cut. With three of their drivers running for the title at the end, HWA Mercedes won with 54% of the vote, though Abt Sportsline took a strong score of 22% to finish second.
Mücke Motorsport, which ran Maro Engel & David Coulthard finished a clear third, with the satellite Audi teams tied with 5% of the vote. Persson motorsport, despite running overall featured drivers Green & Stoddart, came in last with 4%.

The rookie contingent for the 2010 DTM series was quite a small field, with David Coulthard, Miguel Molina & Frankie Cheng all joining the series for their first season. Althought Spanish driver Molina rallied to tenth place in the standings in his older generation Audi, he just lost out in the readers poll to former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard by just 0.6%, with Cheng trailing well behind after a season where 12th place was his best finish.

With Mercedes-Benz dominating the championship, it wasn’t surprising to see them dominate the manufacturers poll either, beating Audi with 83% of the vote.

All of the winners above will soon to be put against the world’s other major touring car series to see who the overall top drivers & teams were in 2010.
Come back tomorrow for the next round of results.
