New Audi and Mercedes drivers for 2011
Audi and Mercedes are both on the hunt for new drivers for the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters 2011. The Audi seat looks set to be taken by F3 Euro Series champion Edoardo Mortara.
“I’m pretty optimistic for the future, but for the moment I’m still without a seat for this year,” said Mortara to Autosport.
Dutchman Robert Doornbos has been involved in a lot of speculation for the vacant Mercedes seat, a seat left vacant after reigning DTM champion Paul Di Resta leaving for Formula One with Force India.
But Doornbos recently stated on his website that he is not going to be in DTM for 2011. The Dutchman is instead heading for the Indy 500 this season. Mercedes is still on the hunt for a driver for DTM 2011.
“There is lots of speculation, but I can’t say anything just yet. There are various contacts, but not every contact becomes a contract. We don’t want a lot of changes and it is far too early to talk about any decision,” said Mercedes motorsport boss Norbert Haug.
