Schumacher: “I thank Mercedes for their patience”

Ralf Schumacher claimed his first ever DTM podium finish with third in the season opener at Hockenheim.
“I thank Mercedes-Benz and my mechanics for their patience. Before the season, I had set myself the target of claiming my first podium. Now I’ve done it on the first weekend of the season,” said Schumacher

The former F1 driver had to fight for the podium finish and nearly gained second at the same time as he nearly lost third on the very final lap when trying to catch a struggling Mattias Ekström.

“The race was very hard and I was involved in a lot of battles. My brakes locked a few times, but all in all, it was tremendous fun,” said Schumacher.

The German is hoping to stay in the top of the field and keep mixing it up with his Mercedes team mates.

“Keeping up with my fellow Mercedes-Benz drivers always has been my goal and it still is. Now, I am on the right way to do so,” said Schumacher.
