First ever DTM victory for Rockenfeller
Mike Rockenfeller secured his first ever Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters victory at Zandvoort today. The German passed pole position man Bruno Spengler in the first pitstop and was untouchable for the rest of the race, crossing the line 1.4 seconds ahead of Spengler.
Spengler had to fight hard to keep Martin Tomczyk behind him. Tomczyk was faster towards the end of the race but never got close enough to attack.
Tomczyk had a close call with Jamie Green and Ralf Schumacher in the final pitstop. All three drivers exited the pits alongside each other with small contact between Tomczyk and Schumacher. The stewards investigated the incident, but no penalty was issued.
While Schumacher dropped back to finish 11th, Green crossed the line fourth ahead of Timo Scheider and Edoardo Mortara.
Maro Engel had to fight hard to keep seventh from Mattias Ekström. The Swede started 16th after struggling in qualifying and managed to climb to eight in the race after a very long first stint.
Gary Paffett and Oliver Jarvis were the final drivers to make it to top ten.
Filipe Albuquerque was the sole retirement in the race. The Portuguese driver outbraked him self in the first corner and retired after 13 laps with technical problems.
