Martin Tomczyk claims Austrian pole position

Martin Tomczyk carried the strong performance from free practice to claim pole position in the qualifying session at a wet Red Bull Ring. Oliver Jarvis made it an Audi 1-2 with Ralf Schumacher on a strong third on the grid.

Italian Audi driver Eduardo Mortara headed Mike Rockenfeller in fourth, with Maro Engel and Timo Scheider in sixth and seventh respectively.

Gary Paffett, Jamie Green and Christian Vietoris rounded off top ten.

Championship front runners Bruno Spengler and Mattias Ekström had a tough session with Spengler in 12th and Ekström in 18th and last position on the grid.

Ekström aquaplaned off track due to the immense rain and crashed in to the tyres, damaging his Audi A4. Fellow Audi driver Miguel Molina suffered a similar fate, but managed to avoid hitting the tyres hard. Molina is going to start 17th.
