Lausitzring hosts fourth DTM race of 2011

Lausitzring hosts the fourth Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters of 2011 this weekend. The track, located close to the boarders of Poland and Czech Republic, has historically favored Mercedes with all victories since 2005 going to the Stuttgart-based manufacturer.

However, the Audi drivers are optimistic ahead of the weekend with the new Hankook tyres changing the balance of performance between the two manufacturers.

“Thanks to our new tire partner Hankook the cards have been reshuffled at the Lausitzring. In the past Mercedes was strong there. But I’m very hopeful that we’ll be looking better there this year. Then we’ll see how the journey continues,” said Audi man Timo Scheider.

Despite the fact that the three Audi teams have tested at Lausitzring ahead of the weekend, the Mercedes drivers are confident.

“My aim is to celebrate my first victory of the season. It is definitely possible as I have proved with my two victories in 2005 and 2009,” said Paffett.

Bruno Spengler heads the table ahead of Lausitzring, but Martin Tomczyk is gaining quickly and reduced the gap to just three points in the previous race.

“After our victory at Spielberg I’m looking forward to the next race with particularly eager anticipation. The Lausitzring is a nice race track, even though it’s not necessarily my favorite one this season. We tested there and could see how tight it is. I’m eager to see how things will continue there,” said Tomczyk.
