The streets of Norisring next up for DTM
The Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters is going to race at Norising this weekend. Jamie Green is the man to beat at this track with three victories in the last three years.
“I’d love to secure my fourth consecutive win in this race. But talking a look at the first for rounds of the season you can see that the DTM racing is extremely close, this year,” said Green.
While Mercedes are on top of the statistics at Norisring, Audi are on top of the championship with Martin Tomczyk in the lead after two consecutive victories.
Double DTM champion and Audi driver Timo Scheider is the second best Audi driver in the championship in third position and stated during a pre-race press conference at Norisring that he is keen to win this weekend.
“It’s the most prestigious race of the season and I want to take this trophy to Ingolstadt. The race enjoys a special status as the circuit represents an extreme, due to its characteristics. And nowhere else, we DTM drivers have closer contact to our supporters. I truly am looking forward to the Norisring,” said
Top Mercedes driver in the championship is Bruno Spengler, who was in the lead until recently.
“I’m just a point behind the leader, Martin Tomczyk, and in a championship featuring racing as close as witnessed in the current DTM season you quickly can turn the tables. So, I haven’t to cope with a lot of pressure. My team and I will focus on our tasks to keep on pushing, in Nuremberg,” said Spengler.
Ralf Schumacher had mixed fortunes last time DTM visited Norisring. The weekend started with pole position, but ended in a penalty for jumping the start.
“I have fond memories of the Norisring that represents a highlight in every single DTM season. In 2010 I had hoped to achieve a better result but with hindsight, it was a good race weekend. After all, I secured my maiden DTM pole, there, and set my first fastest race lap. I wouldn’t mind to continue this way, this year. With my podiums at Hockenheim and Spielberg I demonstrated that the C-Class suits me well and that I’m getting on better and better, in DTM. Having been the pole-sitter in 2010 I want to also be one of the front runners in the race, this year,” said Schumacher.
