Spengler wins red-flagged wet race at Norisring
Bruno Spengler secured the victory at a wet Norisring ahead of Jamie Green, who has won the three last races at Norisring, and previous championship leader Martin Tomczyk.
Spengler has retaken the championship lead thanks to the victory of today, dropping Tomczyk to second, three points behind.
Green was close to Spengler at mid-point of the race but had Audi driver Mattias Ekström right behind him. Ekström managed to get past Green at one point, but quickly lost the position as the Swede made a small mistake.
Ekström then dropped further back as the rain increased, getting past by, among others, fellow Audi driver Tomczyk, who started 10th but made a strong drive through the field to finish third.
The increasing rain forced the officials to bring out the safety car in hope that the rain would decrease. But with 19 laps left, the stewards decided to bring out the red flags and stop the race due to the heavy rainfall.
Timo Scheider secured fourth position ahead of Edoardo Mortara and Ralf Schumacher. Ekström claimed seventh ahead of David Coulthard and Maro Engel. Renger van der Zande was the final man in to the top ten.
