Spengler happy with extended championship lead

Bruno Spengler secured second in the DTM race at Nürburgring today, extending his championship lead to seven points over Martin Tomczyk.
“I’m happy with my second place. Many thanks to the team for a great, consistent car,” said Spengler.

But the Canadian says that he was not able to show the true potential of his Mercedes C-Class in the race due to Mike Rockenfeller.

“I overtook Mike Rockenfeller just two laps before the finish. My C-Class was very fast today, but I couldn’t use all the speed, as I couldn’t find a way past Mike for quite a time,” said Spengler.

The both followed each other for the majority of the race, Spengler seemingly on a stronger pace but losing ground in the pit stops. Rockenfeller then outbraked him self in to the first corner with just two laps left, enabling Spengler to get past.

DTM resumes in one month at Brands Hatch.
