Tomczyk new points leader after Audi 1-2-3 at Brands
Martin Tomczyk has taken over the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters championship lead, heading an Audi 1-2-3 in a wet race at Brands Hatch today.
“It is a great feeling to win such a hard race, I kept fighting all the way,” said Tomczyk.
Championship rival Bruno Spengler only managed seventh in the race and drops to second in the championship, one point behind Tomczyk.
Mattias Ekström secured second, just two seconds behind Tomczyk and was closing in at the final part of the race. The Swede jumps up to second in the championship on 29 points, 31 points behind Tomczyk.
Edoardo Mortara claimed his best ever DTM result in third, just over two seconds ahead of best Mercedes driver Gary Paffett in fourth.
Mortara and Paffett were higher up in the order at the beginning of the race, but the both made contact at the exit of Graham Hill Bend, allowing Tomczyk to get past.
Pole position man Rockenfeller lead the race initially, but dropped back throughout the race. Rockenfeller was able to finish sixth in the race, but lost a lot of time after getting spun by Ralf Schumacher.
Jamie Green finished eighth ahead of Oliver Jarvis and Maro Engel. The DTM resumes again at Oschersleben on the 18th of September.
