Mattias Ekström claims pole position at Valencia

Mattias Ekström claimed pole position for the penultimate DTM race of the year at Valencia in Spain. The Swede lapped the track in 1:30.608 with Filipe Albuquerque as closest competitor in second with 1:31.021.

Renger van der Zande had his best ever qualifying session with third and best Mercedes driver ahead of David Coulthard, also notching up his best ever DTM qualifying position.

Mike Rockenfeller was third best Audi driver in fifth ahead of Miguel Molina, who topped the first two practice sessions.

Timo Scheider, Oliver Jarvis, Gary Paffett and Ralf Schumacher rounded off top ten.

None of the title contenders were to be found inside the top ten, with championship leader Martin Tomczyk in eleventh and Bruno Spengler in a disappointing 13th.
