Renger van der Zande gets grid drop [updated]

Renger van der Zande lost his best ever DTM qualifying position after a one-place grid drop for the race at Valencia tomorrow, promoting former Formula One driver David Coulthard to third on the grid.

The Dutchman used two sets of tyres during the Q3 session while only one set is allowed.

Zande’s Q4 time was therefore removed, dropping him from third to fourth on the grid. Team Persson was also fined 1000 euros for the mistake.

Update:

The technical controls after qualifying found that the rear wings of Renger van der Zande and David Coulthard’s Mercedes were not mounted according to the regulations. Their times were due to this cancelled and both drivers were supposed to start from the back of the grid. But both teams protested against the penalty, meaning that the penalty has been suspended and both drivers will start from their respective grid position, Coulthard third and Van der Zande fourth.
