BMW signs Martin Tomczyk for DTM 2012

BMW is going to feature number one on one of their cars in the DTM next year as the German manufacturer today confirmed newly crowned DTM champion Martin Tomczyk for 2012.
“With Martin Tomczyk we are proud to have gained an absolute top-notch driver for our DTM involvement. Despite being fairly young in the touring car context, he is one of the most experienced DTM drivers around: he’s consistently fast, of impeccable character and an out-and-out winner,” said BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt.

Audi announced just two days ago that Tomczyk was leaving them for 2012 and the strong rumors of that Tomczyk was going to follow former Mercedes driver Bruno Spengler to BMW turned out to be true.
“In 2011 he was the first driver ever to win the DTM championship in an older spec car. We will do everything we can to consolidate this success with him in the future. Our target is to become competitive as quickly as possible, and from that point of view we see Martin as an extremely important asset,” said Marquardt.

Tomczyk is going to get his first test with the new BMW M3 DTM in two weeks at Monteblanco in Spain. The German joins Andy Priaulx, Augusto Farfus and Spengler as the so far confirmed BMW drivers for DTM 2012, two driver seats remain to be appointed.
