BMW launches DTM test as prize for Sports Trophy

BMW Motorsport held the 50th BMW Sports Trophy Awards this weekend, announcing that the overall prize next year will be a test with the BMW M3 DTM.
“As part of our realignment in close-to-production motorsport, next year’s winner of the BMW Sports Trophy will receive a test day in the BMW M3 DTM the following year,” said BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt.

The overall prize this year was 30,000 Euro, awarded to Canadian BMW driver Paul Dalla Lana. The prize will change to a full DTM test day with BMW Motorsport in 2012.
“On the one hand, this will allow us to underline the importance of the Sports Trophy to BMW. On the other hand, it shows the close interaction of our involvement in motorsport. At the forefront of this is our DTM commitment, while customer racing forms the essential base,” said Marquardt.

BMW Motorsport also announced their overall motorsport program for 2012, with focus on DTM, ALMS and customer racing with the BMW Z4 GT3. The WTCC specification BMW 320 TC is not going to be receiving any further development.
