BMW eyes future Super GT entry

BMW is considering to enter the Japanese Super GT championship in the future, according to Autosport. The new DTM regulations are set to be introduced in the Japanese championship with some differences, such as the engine size.

“BMW does not plan to produce a separate engine for Japan, but we envisage there will be some kind of performance balancing,” said BMW Motorsport boss Jens Marquardt to Autosport.

The DTM runs 4.0 litre V8 engines while Super GT is going to continue with 3.4 litre V8 engines, something Marquardt does not see as a problem.
“If the balancing is done right, no,” said Marquardt.

The DTM regulations are not only set for Japan, but also the USA with Grand-Am. The planned world-wide expansion of the DTM regulations was a precondition from BMW to enter the DTM ahead of 2012.
