Gary Paffett fastest in first day of official testing [updated]

Gary Paffett was fastest on the first day of official testing at Hockenheim. The Mercedes driver lapped the track in 1:33.284, only 0.147 seconds faster than ABT Audi driver Mike Rockenfeller.

Edoardo Mortara claimed the third fastest time, four tenths slower than Paffett and three tenths faster than Timo Scheider in fourth.

DTM newcomer Adrien Tambay was the last man in to the top five, 0.776 seconds from the fastest time of the session. Mercedes juniors Robert Wickens and Roberto Merhi were sixth and seventh fastest respectively.

Best BMW man was reigning DTM champion Martin Tomczyk in eighth, just over 1.2 seconds off pace. Tomczyk headed Augusto Farfus in the RBM BMW M3 in ninth.

Jamie Green rounded off the top ten and the DTM test continues today, tuesday.
