Bruno Spengler takes pole ahead of title rivals
Bruno Spengler took pole position ahead of championship leader Gary Paffett. The Canadian was the only man to break the 1’22 barrier in Q4, lapping the Oschersleben track in 1:20.933. Green was second, just under a tenth slower than the BMW man.
Jamie Green took his Mercedes up to third, three tenths away from the pole position, while Dirk Werner was not able to match the performances shown in the earlier phases of the session. The German had topped the timesheets in Q3, and was some three tenths quicker than the pole position lap.
Mattias Ekstroem came fifth and was the first of the non-qualified to the fourth phase of the session. The Swede came home ahead of Tomczyk but, due to the German’s penalty, it will be fellow Audi driver Edoardo Mortara who will start alongside him. Mike Rockenfeller, Miguel Molina and Augusto Farfus will all benefit from Tomczyk’s penalty, as the BMW driver will start from eleventh, behind Ralf Schumacher.
Tomczyk will be joined on the sixth row by triple World Champion Andy Priaulx, while some of those who had been among the quickest in the field during Free Practice haven’t even made it to Q3. Filipe Albuquerque will start from fourteenth, while David Coulthard will join Susie Wolff on the last row.
Next up for the DTM is the Warm Up, which is scheduled for 10.30 tomorrow.
