Bruno Spengler on his own at Hockenheim

Title contender Bruno Spengler was on his own in the first free practice session at Hockenheim ahead of the season finale. The BMW driver was eight tenths faster than the closest competitor in the form of Martin Tomczyk while championship leader Gary Paffett only managed 16th, 1.7 seconds behind.

Mike Rockenfeller and Mattias Ekström were top Audi drivers in third and fourth, 0.814 and 0.921 seconds behind respectively.

Last race winner Augusto Farfus was fifth fastest and final driver within one second from the fastest time ahead of Dirk Werner, Filipe Albuquerque and Miguel Molina. Andy Priaulx and Edoardo Mortara were final drivers in to the top ten.

Mercedes struggled in the session with David Coulthard as their top driver in 13th, 1.385 seconds from the top time.
