DTM heads to Moscow as 2013 calendar is revealed
The DTM is going to race on Russian soil for the first time ever next year. The 2013 calendar was revealed today, including one race in the Russian capital Moscow.
“For DTM, the race in Moscow is an important step on the way to breaking into new markets. For the series and our manufacturers – Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz – racing in a country such as Moscow represents a big chance of presenting themselves internationally in front of a new crowd,” said Hans Werner Aufrecht, Chairman of DTM promoter ITR.
One race, the penultimate, remains TBA and there are two events missing compared to the 2012 calendar: Valencia and Munich.
“We had two great years in Munich’s Olympic Stadium and we thank all those involved for this opportunity to entertain the DTM enthusiasts in an unfamiliar environment and virtually right at their doorsteps. Meanwhile, we weren’t able to make the next step – turning the event into a championship round – as ensuring absolute equality of opportunities is just impossible, on a parallel racetrack,” said Aufrecht.
The remainder of the calendar is more or less the same as in 2012. The calendar features eleven races, starting and ending as usual at Hockenheim. Five different countries are represented in the calendar with United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, Holland and Russia.
