Marco Wittmann joins BMW for DTM 2013

Marco Wittmann is the seventh driver of eight to be confirmed for BMW in the 2013 DTM season.
“Marco spent the 2012 season preparing intensively for this opportunity. He was a permanent part of the team throughout the entire year and was present in every meeting. He knows the processes just as well as the other drivers. Furthermore, his tests in the BMW M3 DTM showed he is more than capable of coping with the DTM. As such, he fully deserves a DTM seat in 2013,” said Jens Marquardt, head of BMW Motorsport.

The 23-year-old finished as runner-up in the 2011 F3 Euro Series and raced in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring this year for BMW.

BMW has also confirmed to keep the six drivers who took part for them in the DTM 2012: Bruno Spengler, Augusto Farfus, Joey Hand, Andy Priaulx and Dirk Werner.
“All six of our drivers produced very good performances last season and contributed to BMW Motorsport winning the Manufacturers’ Championship. For that reason, it is a logical step to put our faith in our sextet again in 2013, said Marquardt.

The announcement of the seven drivers was made during the yearly BMW Sports Trophy where Thomas Biagi was announced as the 2012 winner. Biagi is thanks to his efforts in the Italian Superstars Series and Italian GT Championship going to get a test drive in a BMW M3 DTM in 2013.

The identity of the eighth BMW driver is expected to be announced shortly.
