BMW and Spengler dominate 2012 TcT DTM Awards

BMW was voted best in all four categories of the 2012 TouringCarTimes Awards for the DTM by the readers of TouringCarTimes.

Champion Bruno Spengler was voted best driver, receiving 39% of the votes. His main title rival of the 2012 DTM season Gary Paffett got 19% of the votes in second, with newcomer Augusto Farfus Jr. in third on 8,1%, Edoardo Mortara in fourth on 7.7% and Mattias Ekström on 6.9%.

Spengler’s team and legendary BMW touring car team Schnitzer got a decisive 49% of the votes in the best team category. Fellow BMW team RBM was a distant second on 11%, with top Mercedes team HWA in third on 10.5%.

The best rookie award saw DTM newcomer Augusto Farfus Jr. getting a massive 63% of the votes. The Brazilian, racing for BMW Team RBM, finished seventh overall in the championship after a strong end to the season, claiming a win in the penultimate race of the year in Spain.

Farfus’ team mate and multiple WTCC champion Andy Priaulx was voted second best on 16% ahead of Adrien Tambay, Robert Wickens and Joey Hand.

The BMW M3 DTM took not only the championship by storm, but also the readers of TouringCarTimes. 71% of the readers voted for the BMW as the best car, beating the Mercedes C-Coupé in second on 17% and the Audi A5 in third on 12%.
