BMW and Joey Hand on top in third Hockenheim test day

American BMW driver Joey Hand topped the third and penultimate day of testing at Hockenheim. Hand set his fastest time on his very final lap and was over 1.1 seconds faster than closest rival in the form of Audi driver Edoardo Mortara.

“Actually a good day – despite the wet conditions. But unfortunately a day without a happy end. I was out on the trying track in the closing stages of the session but I got on a wet spot and lost it. Sorry for this mistake. Up to this incident, however, we succeeded in completing the major part of our scheduled programme and the car seems to be very competitive. Now I’m looking forward to the season kick-off at Hockenheim,” said Mortara.

New Audi driver Jamie Green made it two Audis in the top three, 1.545 seconds from Hand’s best time.

Reigning champion Bruno Spengler was fourth fastest, with Robert Wickens and Adrien Tambay right behind him.

The weather played a big part in the test, just as yesterday. The track was wet for the majority of the day, with a dry line only in the very last part of the afternoon session. Testing continues tomorrow for the two final sessions.
