Bruno Spengler tops Norisring practice for BMW

BMW’s Bruno Spengler has set the fastest time for DTM practice at the Norisring, 0.004 seconds ahead of Abt Audi’s Adrien Tambay.

The reigning champion set his time of 48.427 in the closing minutes of the session, which up to then, had been dominated by the Audis of Mattias Ekstrom and Edoardo Mortara.

The Swede eventually finished eighth, and Mortara third, ahead of Audi stablemates, Filipe Albuquerque and Timo Scheider.

Championship leader Mike Rockenfeller finished seventh, and Jamie Green, a four time winner around the Nuremberg circuit in his Mercedes career, had a difficult session after damaging his Audi RS5.

RMG BMW drivers, Andy Priaulx and Martin Tomczyk, rounded out the top-1o.

Robert Wickens was the best placed Mercedes in 13th place.

The session was also incident free, with the exception of a lock up by Roberto Merhi, and BMW’s Dirk Werner overshooting the the final turn early on.

Werner also stopped in the same place later on in the session, which saw his Schnitzer BMW towed back to the pits
