Mattias Ekström Norisring watergate appeal date set
Audi’s appeal against Mattias Ekström’s disqualification from the DTM’s Norisring round will be heard on Tuesday July 30th, Autosport has reported.
Ekström, who originally won on-track, was disqualified the evening after the race for breaching article 44.1 of the series’ sporting regulations.
This was decided after the stewards deemed the Abt Sportsline had broken the rules, after his father, Bengt, squirted the contents of a bottle of water into his son’s pocket in parc fermé following a post-race weight-in.
Shortly after Ekström’s disqualification, the Abt Sportsline team announced it would contest the decision, and two days later, officially lodged its appeal to the German Motorsport federation, the DMSB.
A DMSB spokesperson has announced that the hearing will begin next Tuesday afternoon and a verdict is expected the same evening.
