Ralf Schumacher enjoying managerial role at Mercedes

Former DTM and Formula 1 driver, Ralf Schumacher, has told TouringCarTimes he gets more pleasure from his managerial role at RSC Mücke Motorsport, than he did from his last years of competition.

Despite being confirmed as one of Mercedes’ 2013 drivers, Schumacher informed the team in March this year that he no longer wished to continue in the series, and would be taking up a managerial role with the Mercedes’ RSC Mucke team, which runs DTM rookies, Dani Juncadella, and Pascal Wehrlein.

“I don’t miss the racing too much,” Schumacher told TouringCarTimes. “To be honest, I even get more pleasure from it than at the end of my racing driver career.

“My new responsibilities in the management team at RSC Mücke Motorsport represent an exciting challenge for me, helping the best young drivers with my know-how and expertise, and hopefully seeing them on their way to a successful career in motor racing.”

Schumacher also praised Juncadella and Wehrlein, who are 11th and 19th in the drivers’ standings respectively, with 20 and two points apiece.

“Dani and Pascal may be rookies, but they have proven their talent with strong qualifying and race results in the first half of the DTM season.”

Since moving from Formula 1 to the DTM in 2008, Schumacher’s career best results were second at the Red Bull Ring in 2011, and eighth in the drivers’ championship that same season.

Each of his five DTM seasons were spent driving for Mercedes.
