Maximilian Götz and Buhk to test DTM Mercedes next month

Spa 24 Hours winners, Maximilian Götz and Maximilian Buhk, will make their DTM test debuts for Mercedes at the Lausitzring next month.

The two Germans, along with former DTM champion, Bernd Schneider, took victory at the Spa 24 Hours in July behind the wheel of a Mercedes SLS GT3. The pair also lead the ADAC GT Masters drivers’ standings with 102 points.

Götz, who is the current FIA GT3 champion, and Buhk, who took the ADAC GT Masters title last season, will get a run in Mercedes’ C-Coupe at the Lausitzring on September 17.

Toto Wolff, Mercedes’ head of motorsport, believes the pair have proved their worth for a DTM test, as the team seeks to evaluate its driver options for 2014, with Gary Paffett the only Mercedes driver with a deal in place for next season.

“Mercedes-Benz has a long tradition of promoting talent in motor racing, from Formula 3 right through to the DTM and Formula 1,” said Wolff. “We also keep an eye on the performance of the drivers in the customer sports segment.

“With their success in the SLS GT3, the two Maximilians have seized the opportunity to showcase their talent in a high-performance vehicle.

“Against strong competition, they have shown that they are ready to step up to the next level.

“For their outstanding performance in the gullwing Mercedes, the two Maximilians fully deserve this forthcoming DTM test.”
