Andy Priaulx at a loss to explain RMG BMW problems
RMG BMW’s Andy Priaulx is at a loss to explain the problems which have befallen him and team-mate Martin Tomczyk this season.
Priaulx finished 2012 strongly scoring 24 points, but so far this season, he has only managed to score two, with three rounds to go of this year’s DTM championship.
Like team-mate Tomczyk, Priaulx once again qualified at the back of the grid in 21st, whilst Tomczyk qualified just one place ahead.
“If I think we had an answer to these problems then we wouldn’t be where we are,” Priaulx told TouringCarTimes. “I don’t think it’s very straightforward, but I hate being where I am.
“I would hate it even more if Martin were on pole and I were last, as then I would say that’s game over for me, but I’m driving with Martin Tomczyk and he’s won a DTM title [and he’s struggling].
“That’s the only thing that gives me some hope that there’s light at the end of the tunnel.”
Despite being disappointed with 21st on the grid, Priaulx feels he was unable to extract anymore from the RMG run M3 in qualifying.
“I have had some strong performances in the DTM but currently, I can’t feel the pace is in the car, so today it wasn’t possible for me to go any faster.
Priaulx also suggested that whilst his current focus is on DTM, he would be keeping his “ears open” with regard to 2014, as his current deal with BMW in the DTM expires at the end of this season.
“You’ve got to keep your ears open, but my future is let’s say, DTM. Obviously I’ve been with BMW for such a long time and achieved so much with them [but] now’s a crucial time for me to start getting getting some feedback, and start getting into the top-10 regularly.”
