Miguel Molina unsurprised by top-3 grid slot
Audi’s Miguel Molina is targeting victory in tomorrow’s DTM race at the Nürburgring, after taking third on the grid in qualifying.
For the first time in 2013, Molina made it into Q4 and at one stage, and appeared to be an outside bet for pole position until his lap-time of 1m23.451 seconds was bettered by the BMW pairing of pole-sitter Augusto Farfus, and second placed man, Marco Wittmann.
The Spaniard feels he can challenge for victory tomorrow, should the weather stay dry, and insisted he will be focussing on his own race.
“I think if it’s dry we will run a strategy to try and win, and of course, this is what I want,” Molina told TouringCarTimes. “Let’s see how it goes tonight with all the guys at the team, so then we’ll decide.
“[I’m not worried about anyone behind me], so I’ll just concentrate on my own race.”
“Anyway, I think we have a good chance [to win] and we will also have a good car for the race.”
Molina also added that he was unsurprised by his sudden up-turn in form at the Nürburgring, and feels it was just a case of hard work throughout the season and getting the circumstances right.
“We had a very good free practice this morning where we were testing different things, and we optimised the car for qualifying,” he said. “Phoenix gave me a really nice car to drive, and we were the best Audi today, so I think we deserve this.
“We’ve had tough days in the past, but I’ve always trusted in myself and in the team to continue working as they always did, and this has been the key to today.”
