Dani Juncadella relaxed about wet forecast race

DTM rookie, Dani Juncadella, is confident in his wet weather ability ahead of the Nurburgring race, which is forecast to be wet.

The Spaniard was promoted to the RSC Mucke Mercedes team for 2013 after winning the 2012 Euro F3 series, and has performed strongly this season; he took his first DTM career podium at the Norisring two races ago, and had his best qualifying of the year at the Nurburgring with sixth place.

Juncadella, like all of the other 2013 DTM rookies, has yet to start a DTM race under wet conditions. However, he told TouringCarTimes he is unconcerned about the rain forecast for the race.

“The rain will make things harder, but I enjoy racing in the wet anyway,” he said. “I’ve always enjoyed the Nurburgring, so the fact that we’re racing here is probably a help.”

Despite being unconcerned about the weather, Juncadella is keeping a lid on expectations going into the race. He also suggested he would help Mercedes stable-mate, Gary Paffett, who qualified one position ahead in fifth, and lies third in the championship; 37 points off of drivers’ championship leader, Mike Rockenfeller.

“It’s hard to say what we can expect from today, because you don’t know what’s going to come.

“I’m going to try and score as many points [as possible] and hopefully get a podium, but it’s going to be tough.

“You have to remember that Gary is Mercedes’ main contender in the championship, so you have to take care.

“Still, a podium for me would be great, so we’ll see how the race goes.”

Juncadella currently lies 11th in the championship on 20 points.
