Edoardo Mortara feels weather could harm Audi’s chances

Audi’s Edoardo Mortara has told TouringCarTimes he feels the cooler conditions at the Nurburgring could harm Audi’s chances in the race.

The Italian once again matched his best qualifying performance of the season with fourth at the Nurburgring, but feels the warmer temperatures on Saturday benefited his Audi RS 5, and the cooler temperatures on race-day could have the opposite effect.

“I guess the temperature played a role in our performance a little bit,” said Mortara. “I’m pleased even if for some reasons we lost a little grip, but in Q2 we were very, very, quick.

“The cooler weather could affect it, but I hope not so much, because yesterday when it was very hot, we were very competitive; when it was less [warm], we had a little more problems, so we need to see how it’s going to be today.”

Mortara also added that after a difficult season which has seen him score just two points from seven races, he did not wish to make a prediction with the outcome of today’s race.

“I don’t really want to say anything anymore, because we’ve been up there in the last few races and it didn’t turn into anything.

“I hope we can score some points, [and] maybe a good podium from where we are [on the grid].

“We’re on a different strategy to the others [around us], so if we get the pace and a really good start, then we can also win it. Let’s cross our fingers and see.”
