Edoardo Mortara focussed on Audi future despite rumours
Audi’s Edoardo Mortara has told TouringCarTimes he is not planning on leaving at the end of the season, despite rumours linking him to Mercedes for 2014.
The Italian finished 2012 as the most successful of the Audi drivers with two victories, and told TouringCarTimes he was hoping he could push for the title with the Rosberg Audi team going into this season.
However, Mortara has had a nightmare season this season and has managed to score just two points, despite qualifying in the top-10 in five out of seven races.
“This isn’t up to me about which team I go to, this up to Audi Sport,” said Mortara. “I’m just an official driver, so they decide where I go, but I have no problem with Team Rosberg.
“It would not be fair from my side to say so, because this year we are having a tough season, and to go against them, just no. We had a very good season last season and we were hoping to fight for the title this year.
“They [the team] know how to do the work, but this year it hasn’t worked, so I guess in the winter we need to sit down and discuss a little bit, but I’ve got no problem to stay here.
“I grew up with them in DTM, so it’s like a little bit my family and I’d never go against them to be honest with you.”
Despite casting the suggestion he may leave the team at the end of the season aside, Mortara did concede that the end of 2013 cannot come quick enough, but also insisted he is not suffering a loss of motivation.
“I just want to finish this season, as it’s starting to be b******t.”
“It’s getting worse and worse every race, [so] it’s starting to be a bit painful to come to races to be honest.
“I’m still motivated, and I’m still driving 100%, but every time something always happens; contact and stuff like that. It’s starting to get annoying.”
