Jamie Green: podium “a bit of a milestone”

Audi’s Jamie Green feels his third place at Oschersleben, is a “bit of a milestone” as it marks his first career podium with the Ingolstadt manufacturer.

Green, 31, switched to the Abt Sportsline Audi team for 2013 after eight seasons with Mercedes, and until Oschersleben, had scored his best race finish of the season with fifth at the Lausitzring.

His other only other points of the season came with sixth place at the Moscow Raceway.

At Oschersleben, Green qualified second and eventually inherited pole as a result of Bruno Spengler’s five-place grid penalty.

He finished the race in third behind Audi stable-mate, Mike Rockenfeller, and race winner, BMW’s Augusto Farfus.

“Standing on the podium is always fantastic – after all, that’s why we’re here,” said Green. “In working together with Audi, this is a bit of a milestone for me and an important stage win on the road to my next aim; that’s achieving the first victory for Audi.

The Abt Sportsline driver added his maiden Audi podium is the result of hard work and finally feeling fully comfortable with the team and its RS 5 DTM car.

“My car, my race engineer, the entire squad and I have by now really gelled.

“We’ve only got two days per race it simply takes time for that to happen, [and] Oschersleben was a good example of a smooth weekend.

“We had a good qualifying session and a good speed in the race as well, [so] this sparks enthusiasm for more.”

Green now feels he can now fight for his first Audi victory going into the final two race of the season on the back of his strong Oschersleben result.

“I personally feel very comfortable, and have got fond memories of both tracks and would like to achieve even more; Zandvoort and Hockenheim should be suit our car.”
