BMW’s Bruno Spengler aiming to help Augusto Farfus

Outgoing DTM champion, Bruno Spengler, is aiming to help BMW stablemate, Augusto Farfus, at Zandvoort despite starting the race in 18th place.

Spengler qualified 16th on Saturday at Zandvoort after struggling with the balance of his Schnitzer run BMW M3.

He will start 18th at the Dutch circuit after being issued a two-place grid penalty for causing an accident at Oschersleben with compatriot and Mercedes driver, Robert Wickens.

Spengler said his aim for tomorrow’s race is to help Farfus, who is the only man who can stop Audi’s Mike Rockenfeller from taking the 2013 DTM driver’s title.

However, Rockenfeller just needs a second place to claim the championship.

“Our qualifying pace was not good,” said Spengler. “Hopefully it will be better tomorrow.

“Whatever happens, I really want to score valuable points for BMW and help Augusto [Farfus].”

The 2012 DTM champion is also encouraged by his performance at Zandvoort last season, which saw him start 18th, but finish sixth at the end of the 44 laps.

“In 2012 I started from 18th on the grid and came through to finish sixth, [so] maybe I can produce another fightback.”
