Jamie Green and Dirk Werner opposed after clash
Audi’s Jamie Green and BMW’s Dirk Werner are opposed as to where the blame lies for the incident which brought out the Safety Car in the closing stages of the race at Zandvoort.
The pair were fighting over 12th position when they came together on lap 37 going into the Tarzanbocht corner after the start finish straight.
The contact saw Werner’s Schnitzer BMW fly into the banked gravel trap at the entry of the corner, and Green’s Abt Sportsline Audi enter a half-spin from which he managed to recover.
Both drivers are opposed as to where the blame lies, with Green claiming the accident cost him more points, and Werner describing the Briton’s on-track behaviour “un-necessary.”
“I tried to overtake Dirk Werner but he moved to the left and right,” said the Audi driver after the race. “Unfortunately, we touched, he flew off track and I went into a semi-spin as well.
“Afterward, I was no longer able to catch up and finished in 13th place, [but] without this incident I could have probably scored points.
Meanwhile, Werner feels he was forced off the track by Green.
“The car was quite good today,” said Werner. “I think we were just a bit unlucky in a few situations; particularly a few laps before the end, when I was pushed off the track.
“That was unnecessary, as we were fighting for 12th at the time. Then my race was over.”
