Andy Priaulx feels switch to right-foot-braking key to Hockenheim form

BMW’s Andy Priaulx believes his switch back to right-foot-breaking is what has allowed him to take third on the grid at Hockenheim.

The RMG BMW driver made it into Q4 for the first time since switching to the DTM in 2012, and has pin-pointed a switch back to right-foot-braking as the cause.

Throughout qualifying Priaulx also looked a genuine threat to pole.

“I switched back to right-foot-braking and the car was good,” Priaulx told TouringCarTimes after qualifying. “You can’t make the car quick if it is quick, but I felt a good sensitivity with my right foot and mine and the team’s performance was strong.”

Priaulx added he had not switched back to using his right-foot, as it would have taken up too much time during the season to do so as it would have needed an additional day of testing.

The triple World Touring Car champion also believes he can turn his impressive qualifying pace into a strong result in tomorrow’s DTM season finale.

“Yeah, we can do it and I was really happy with today; as long as the car’s good, why not?

“We’ve got to the get the right tyre pressures, the right set-up and make sure the car is in a good way; obviously we’re in Parc Ferme right now.

“We just need to get our s**t together and we’ll be good.”
