BMW to run Antonio Felix da Costa in DTM test

BMW will test Antonio Felix da Costa in Spain on Sunday December 1.

da Costa, a race winner in Formula Renault 3.5, lost out on a 2014 Toro Rosso F1 drive to fellow Red Bull youngster Daniil Kvyat.

However, Red Bull has stated it will continue to back da Costa’s career and wishes for the Portuguese to continue racing in what it considers to be a  “professional” series and the DTM could be a suitable option for the youngster.

TouringCarTimes recently spoke to da Costa’s management about a possible move to the DTM, and they issued the following statement: “After several proposals, at the moment there are three options on the table and two of them are really strong possibilities.

“His 2014 programme should be decided and announced next week, but again at the moment nothing is signed or decided, so it’s all rumours.”

Red Bull currently backs Audi’s Abt Sportsline outfit in the DTM, and is a personal sponsor to BMW driver, Martin Tomczyk.

German GT driver, Jens Klingmann, will also test alongside da Costa.

Despite the tests, TouringCarTimes understands Belgian racer Maxime Martin is tipped to join BMW’s DTM programme should any of its current drivers leave at the end of the year.

Martin currently acts as BMW’s DTM test driver, and in 2013, raced a Z4 GT3 in the now defunct American Le Mans Series, as well as the Blancpain Endurance Series.
