Mike Rockenfeller to take part in Daytona 24 Hours
Audi’s 2013 DTM champion, Mike Rockenfeller, will join the Spirit of Daytona Corvette team at the first round of the United SportsCar Championship, the Daytona 24 Hours, on January 25/26.
Rockenfeller previously won the event in 2010 with the Action Express outfit, and took part in last year’s Daytona 24 Hours with the same team.
Following his move to Spirit of Daytona, he will share the car with the team’s regular driver, Richard Westbrook, and team returnee, Michael Valiante, who drove for the squad in 2012.
In addition to his DTM programme with Audi and the Daytona outing, Rockenfeller will also race for Spirit of Daytona at the other USCC endurance events at the Sebring 12 Hours in March, and the Petit Le Mans in October.
“It’s always good to go back to Daytona,” Rockenfeller told Autosport. “It looks like I should be doing three races with Spirit of Daytona in 2014, which is even better.”
