Augusto Farfus keen for Brazilian DTM round
BMW’s Augusto Farfus is keen to see a DTM round held in his native country of Brazil.
Farfus joined BMW’s DTM line-up for its 2012 comeback year, and has since driven for the RBM team.
Since switching from BMW’s GT programme to the DTM, Farfus has taken four wins and finished as the championship runner up to Mike Rockenfeller in 2013.
Farfus, the sole Brazilian driver on the DTM grid, believes his achievements in the series and its subsequent increase popularity in Brazil would make for a successful event.
“Brazilians love motorsport and I’m sure we would have big crowds for the DTM,” Farfus told TouringCarTimes. “The DTM is a strong platform and I have found it has a lot of followers in Brazil as well.
“The DTM races are shown live there, and almost everywhere I go, there is always someone who recognises me, so it’s great to know people follow my racing career.
Farfus added whilst he would like to race on his home circuit of Curtiba – a track he visited five times between 2006 and 2010 whilst competing in the World Touring Car Championship – he feels the Interlagos circuit in São Paulo would suit the DTM better.
“To have a race at the track in Curitiba of course would be fantastic as it is my home town, but honestly, I think Interlagos is the best place for the DTM.”
In 2014, Farfus will continue in the DTM with the RBM team.
Californian driver, Joey Hand, will be his team-mate for the second consecutive season.
